Why The Asia Pacific Herald

The Asia Pacific is increasingly central to the world’s political, economic, technological and environmental future. Yet international coverage of the region often remains fragmented by country, dominated by breaking news or interpreted primarily through the priorities of powers outside the societies being covered.

The region is too large, diverse and consequential to be understood through a single national or geopolitical lens. We aim to connect the regional dots.

Editorial Independence and Funding

The Asia Pacific Herald is self-funded by its founding editor and supported by a group of volunteers. Our editorial decisions are made independently and are not influenced by governments, political organizations, advertisers or outside interests.

We are seeking partners who believe in independent media and recognize the need for journalism that connects developments across the region.

Editorial Standards and Corrections

We are committed to accuracy, fairness, responsible sourcing and transparency. We verify information before publication and clearly distinguish reporting, analysis and opinion.

When we make a substantive error, we correct it promptly and transparently. Readers may report errors or raise editorial concerns by contacting us.

Our Use of AI

We believe emerging technologies can expand the research capacity of a small, independent newsroom. They do not replace editorial judgment, accountability, verification or responsibility for what we publish.

We use artificial intelligence in our newsroom workflow, including for desk research and copy editing in accordance with our in-house style guide.

No story is published without human editorial review.

Byline Policy

As a small newsroom, we produce work collaboratively, drawing on reporting and research from across the region and synthesizing it through a broader regional lens. Articles developed collectively may carry an institutional rather than an individual byline.
